Arsenal’s star striker Vivianne Miedema was honoured at the Emirates after scoring 100 goals for the club.

Miedema was awarded pitchside in the run up to the men’s Carabao Cup match against AFC Wimbledon. She was handed a prize by Arsenal’s chief executive Vinai Venkatesham, and then interviewed in front of the crowd at the Emirates.

The 25-year-old scored her 100th goal for the club during a Champions League qualifying match against Slavia Prague earlier this month. She managed to hit the back of the net three times in a 4-0 victory.

To make her achievement even more impressive, Miedema reached the 100 goal milestone in just 110 matches.

Miedema, the all-time top scorer for both the Women’s Super League and the Dutch national team, joined Arsenal in 2017. She previously played for SC Heerenveen and Bayern Munich.

Arsenal Women’s Twitter account shared a montage of the special occasion, with the caption: "What a moment! Viv, you so deserve this!"

Arsenal fans were also ecstatic to see Miedema honoured pitchside at the Emirates, with one social media user writing: "Getting the recognition she deserves". Others called on the club to commission a statue of the striker.

"Legend. Win us a European Cup and get her a statue," read one post.

The Arsenal men’s team went on to defeat AFC Wimbledon 3-0, with Alexandre Lacazette, Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah all on the scoresheet.

The side have recovered from a poor run of form which saw them lose the three opening matches of the Premier League season. At the time, fans called for Miedema to feature in the men’s team to help turn things around.

The Dutch star is regarded as one of the greatest strikers in women’s football. In 2019, she won PFA Women's Players' Player of the Year and was shortlisted for the Ballon d'Or Féminin.

In 2020, Miedema was named Women's Player of the Year at the London Football Awards and by England's Football Writers' Association.

Miedema won two consecutive Frauen-Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich in 2015 and 2016, and the 2018–19 FA WSL title with Arsenal.

She helped the Netherlands to glory at Euro 2017, before playing against the United States in the Women’s World Cup final in 2019. The Dutch side eventually lost 2-0.
