With just one win in twelve games at Arsenal in the Premier League era, the Baggies have a pretty dreadful record in that particular part of north London in recent years. Even if you look back to Albion’s more successful eras, Highbury was never a happy hunting ground – not only did the Baggies win just ten of 54 matches against the Gunners at their famous old stadium, they also lost three FA Cup Semi-Finals there (1937, 1979 and 1982) and also were beaten 4-0 by Chelsea in an FA Cup 4th Round 3rd Reply in 1953.

At the Emirates, it is just one win in ten visits to date, a dramatic 3-2 win in September 2010 when Roberto di Matteo’s side took a shock 3-0 lead through Odemwingie, Jara and Thomas (all pictured) before a brace from Samir Nasri made for a nervous final few minutes that the visitors managed to survive.

A couple of years later, current Gunners boss, Mikael Arteta, scored a brace of penalties in a 2-0 win for the hosts in December 2012 while Arsenal recorded their best win over Albion at their new home in May 2015 when a hat-trick from Theo Walcott and another from Jack Wilshere saw the Baggies 4-0 down at half time – Gareth McAuley scored a second half consolation goal to make the final score 4-1.

The Gunners’ best ever win over Albion was at Highbury in September 1970. George Graham and Ray Kennedy grabbed a brace apiece adding to George Armstrong strike and a Len Cantello own goal – Hugh Reed and Tony Brown scored for the visitors to make the final score 6-2.

Only two of the Baggies eleven wins away to Arsenal have been by more than one goal, with the biggest record in November 1959. Vic Groves opened the scoring for the hosts inside two minutes but a Ronnie Allen strike made it 1-1 by half time. Jimmy Bloomfield put Arsenal back in front just after the hour mark but the visitors struck twice in two minutes through Bobby Robson and Derek Kevan to make it 2-3 with thirteen minutes left. Ronnie Allen made it 4-2 with a late penalty to secure the two points that moved Gordon Clark’s Albion side above Arsenal into 10th spot in Division One.

More recently, a Derek Monaghan goal was enough for Albion to take the victory at Highbury in December 1983 which on Boxing Day 1978, Bryan Robson and Ally Brown both scored inside the first six minutes in a game that Albion eventually won 2-1, a result that was overshadowed by that game in Manchester four days later.
