The Gunners had been keen to bring the Spaniard to the club this summer as back-up to David Raya, having also tried to sign him last summer.

But they now appear to have missed out on the 24-year-old. With Brazilian goalkeeper Neto returning to parent club Bournemouth, Arsenal will likely need to add a back-up to Raya this summer.

Meanwhile, the Manchester Evening News say Matheus Cunha has been spotted in Manchester ahead of his expected £62.5m transfer from Wolves.

United’s rivals Manchester City are also looking to strengthen following the opening of the window, and are keen to sign Lyon’s Rayan Cherki.

Sky Germany say Cherki is keen to join City having scored 12 goals and set up 20 in all competitions last season.

City are also set to offer Ballon d’Or winner Rodri a new contract, according to the Mirror.

Sky Germany are reporting that Florian Wirtz is close to completing a move to Liverpool.

Reporter Florian Plettenberg says Bayer Leverkusen are optimistic of getting the deal done quickly, for a transfer fee of around €120m to €140m.

The Sun say Brighton’s Joao Pedro is attracting interest from Newcastle, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Arsenal.

But it is claimed the Seagulls would command a fee of £70m for the forward, who scored ten Premier League goals last season.

The Daily Star say Napoli have joined Arsenal in the race for Sporting CP striker Victor Gyokeres.

The Gunners are also in talks with RB Leipzig over a move for striker Benjamin Sesko, however.

Arsenal are reported to have opened negotiations with the German side over the transfer of the 22-year-old, who scored 13 goals and provided five assists in 33 Bundesliga games last season.

And the Sun say John Stones could be set for a return to former club Everton, which could open the door for Chelsea target Jarrad Branthwaite to head to Man City.
