Arsenal will reportedly meet Ajax officials next week as they bid to beat Manchester United to the signature of Lisandro Martínez.
The two Premier League clubs are in an intense battle to acquire the Argentina international who is valued at €50m by the Dutch club.
It has been widely reported that United have submitted an offer of €40m up front for the centre-back, with €5m in add-ons.
That failure to meet Ajax’s valuation has left the door open to Arsenal to swoop in ahead of their rivals.
The Athletic reports that the Gunners have scheduled a meeting with the Eredivisie giants as the transfer saga looks set to rumble on for at least a few more days.
They claim that “personal terms are not expected to be an issue”, which means that the club that can most satisfy Ajax will likely get their man.
Martínez, who has won two league titles in his three years at the Johan Cruyff Arena, is understood to be Arsenal’s defensive priority this summer.
