Mikel Arteta says Arsenal will hold ‘conversations’ with Real Madrid over the futures of Martin Odegaard and Dani Ceballos beyond the end of the season.

Both players are currently on loan at Arsenal from the Spanish champions, with Ceballos in his second season with the Gunners after arriving at the Emirates in search of regular first-team football.

The Spaniard has struggled for consistency during two seasons in the Premier League, making just 13 league starts so far this season and finding himself in and out of Arteta’s plans.

Arsenal secured the signing of a second Real Madrid loanee in January following the acquisition of Martin Odegaard, the Norway international having failed to break into side on a regular basis after returning from a similar loan spell at Real Sociedad.

The 22-year-old has featured regularly in the side since his arrival in the winter window and Arteta admits the north Londoners have had to be creative with their recruitment given the financial climate.

Ahead of Arsenal’s Europa League clash with Slavia Prague tomorrow evening, the Spaniard insisted he has been pleased with the contributions of both players and says the club will hold talks with Real Madrid over the pair’s long-term future at the end of the campaign.

“With the financial position we are in, have to find a different way to recruit good players and see how those players can improve the team,” Arteta said at his pre-match press conference.

“I am really happy with both of them. Decision at the end of the season. We will have conversations with them – it is the same club.”
