Arsenal target Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves amidst Manchester United interest

According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport (h/t Football.London), Arsenal have shortlisted Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves, amidst interest from Manchester United. He has been a long term target for both clubs, and they continue to view him with great interest.

Neves has a contract with Wolves until 2024, which means that it could be difficult to prise him away from the Molineux this late in the January transfer window. The midfielder is valued at £36million, which seems to be a steal since he has proven himself to be a consistent performer in the English top flight.

The Gunners are eyeing the Portuguese international as a replacement for Granit Xhaka, who could be on his way out of the Emirates AS Roma are keeping tabs on the Swiss international, prompting Mikel Arteta’s side to look at alternatives. It is stated that they have already held “negotiations” with the Wolves star in what could be a damning blow for Man United.

Retaliate!

We cannot simply sit idly by when one of our direct rivals targets a move for someone who should be a must needed addition within our squad. The Manchester side attempted to land the 24-year-old last summer, but the club instead ended up bolstering other areas in the team.

We are still suffering from the board’s mistake ahead of this season, as the instability in midfield has seen us struggle in games. That contributed to our poor run of form under the reign of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Even if Ralf Rangnick has steadied the ship now, the problems are far from eradicated.

Neves will add some much-needed dynamism in the middle of the pitch for Ralf Rangnick’s side. The Portuguese international is also a deft hand at set pieces and can add another dimension to the Old Trafford outfit.

If our rivals get their hands on the Wolves ace, it will give them a major boost in their rebuild. At 24, Neves is also likely to be a long term option who can lay the foundations for a team to be built around him. The Red Devils need a defensive midfield this season; adding Neves to the squad on top of that should help secure the middle of the pitch.

The Glazers are still to make any rumblings in the winter window this month, and it will take nothing short of a miracle to complete a deal for Neves in the next few days. Wolves have already parted ways with Adama Traore, and it will be a surprise if they also let Neves follow suit in the same month.
