The move comes as Arsenal seeks to strengthen its goalkeeping ranks following the departures of Sabrina D’Angelo and Kaylan Marckese. The club’s reliance on stand-in goalkeepers during their recent Australia tour, including Sarah Bouhaddi and young prospect Naomi Williams, highlighted the need for reinforcement.

Van Domselaar, who joined Aston Villa last summer after a successful six-year stint with FC Twente, is widely regarded as one of the best female goalkeepers in the world. Her stellar performances since becoming a starter for the Dutch national team have made her a highly sought-after talent.

This transfer is seen as an ideal fit for both parties. Arsenal, under the leadership of manager Jonas Eidevall, has been searching for a top-level goalkeeper to compete with Manuela Zinsberger. Van Domselaar’s arrival is expected to provide the much-needed competition and depth in that position.

The financial details of the transfer remain undisclosed, but it is known that van Domselaar’s contract with Aston Villa was set to expire in mid-2026.

Born on March 6, 2000, Daphne van Domselaar began her football journey at LSVV in Zuid-Scharwoude. Her natural talent and ability to learn quickly were evident from a young age. She progressed through the youth ranks, playing for Telstar’s academy before joining FC Twente in 2017.

Van Domselaar’s breakthrough came during the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 championship, where she showcased her exceptional skills as a goalkeeper for the Dutch national team. Her performances attracted interest from several clubs, but she opted to stay with FC Twente for one more season.

In late 2022, van Domselaar became the only Eredivisie player to be included in The Guardian’s prestigious list of the 100 best female football players in the world. Her consistent displays of brilliance have solidified her reputation as a top-class goalkeeper.
