Arsenal star Leandro Trossard suggested they should have been awarded a penalty after Bukayo Saka went down in the box right at the end of Tuesday’s draw with Bayern Munich at the Emirates Stadium.

The north London outfit took an early lead thanks to a lovely finish from Saka after just 12 minutes, but the visitors hit back soon after through former Gunners attacker Serge Gnabry.

Another familiar face in the form of Harry Kane found the target from the penalty spot to put Bayern ahead after half an hour.

But Trossard burnished his reputation as an impact substitute when he found an equaliser for Arsenal just ten minutes after being sprung from the bench by Mikel Arteta.

In the dying moments of the game Saka was through on goal but went down after making contact with goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. Referee Glenn Nyberg did not point to the spot, with replays showing the winger stuck out his leg to initiate contact.

“It looked like a penalty to me, it looked like clear contact,” Trossard told TNT Sports. “We’re not pleased but when you are 2-1 down at half-time you will take point at the end.

“We started so well. We could have scored two or three goals after taking the lead. You can see what kind of quality Bayern Munich have to hurt us.

“Luckily I helped the team with a goal so I am pleased with that. I always try to do whatever I can on the pitch. Hopefully I can help in the next few weeks. We have such a great team and we know it will be hard over there. If we play at our best level we can beat anyone.”

Arsenal go to Bayern for the second leg on 17 April.
