Arsenal have been dealt a significant setback as Kai Havertz is now expected to undergo surgery on his latest injury, which could rule him out for the majority of the season. The news comes at a particularly difficult time, given the high expectations surrounding both the player and the club’s campaign.
The German international had already endured a challenging spell with injuries, having only returned to action towards the end of last season. His recovery had allowed him to take part in Arsenal’s preparations for the current term, and he featured throughout pre-season before making an appearance from the bench in the Premier League opener against Manchester United.
Havertz had been earmarked as a contender for the central attacking role, especially following the arrival of Viktor Gyokeres this summer. The Swede’s signing brought renewed competition in the number nine position, and supporters were eager to see the two forwards push each other to greater heights. Havertz was determined to fight for his place, and the anticipated battle for a starting spot at the Emirates had been one of the key talking points at the beginning of the season.
However, his progress was halted before Arsenal’s second league match when he sustained a fresh injury. Initial hopes were that the setback would prove minor, but those expectations have now been dampened by the latest update.

A report in The Athletic states that Havertz is set to undergo surgery, confirming the issue is more serious than initially believed. The same report suggests that the forward faces a prolonged spell on the sidelines, with his rehabilitation likely to stretch over several months.
The timing could hardly be worse for Arsenal, who had been planning to rotate between Havertz and Gyokeres throughout the campaign. Without Havertz available, the club is left with reduced depth in attack and fewer options to ease the pressure on their new signing.
This development is undoubtedly a major blow for Arsenal, as Havertz has been regarded as one of their most important attacking players. His absence will test the resilience of the squad and could force tactical adjustments as the team seeks to maintain momentum in both domestic and European competitions.
