Gabon have officially sent Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang back to London from the African Cup of Nations.

The 32-year-old recently contracted Covid-19 which caused him to miss the group stage matches against Comoros and Ghana.

It was discovered that Aubameyang had 'heart lesions' after contracting the virus.

There were rumours that Aubameyang had fallen out with Gabon coach Patrice Neveu, which some believed was the real reason behind his exit from the tournament.

However, the Gunners star quickly took to Twitter to deny those claims.

He wrote: "We have problems that are already complicated to solve and first and foremost we have to take care of our health.

"Then on top of that there are these false rumours that I will not go back on and I sincerely hope that our team will go as far as possible."

Nice midfielder Mario Lemina was also sent home early, having also shown 'heart lesions' after a scan.
