Jorginho’s agent has insisted they’re in no hurry to discuss a contract renewal with Arsenal, and they’re currently focusing on football.

As it stands, Jorginho’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign, but Arsenal have the option to extend it by another year.

The Gunners could also opt to hand Jorginho a completely fresh contract. As it stands, they’ve done neither.

Speaking to the media ahead of Arsenal’s match against Bayern Munich on Wednesday, Jorginho’s agent Joao Santos answered a question about whether they were in contract with the Gunners over a contract renewal.

“Right now, we’re focused on the Champions League return leg against Bayern Munich, we’re in no hurry,” Santos said.

“If they were to call us in a month or two to discuss the renewal, that’s fine with us. Would Jorginho like to return to Italy? Yes, of course, because he grew up in Italy and he likes everything about your country.”

Santos then answered a couple of further questions about specific clubs Jorginho could hypothetically join.

“You have to understand if they think of Jorginho first and foremost,” Santos said of Fiorentina.

“In front of an ambitious project, of a club that wants to aim for the Champions League, there would be no problem for us. At the moment, however, Fiorentina have not contacted us.”

As for Juventus, Santos seemed less open to the prospect, saying: “In my opinion they don’t need a player like Jorginho, if [Cristiano] Giuntoli needs a midfielder like Jorginho then he could contact me.”

Fabrizio Romano reported in early March that Arsenal would speak to Jorginho’s agent over the coming weeks about his new deal, and the agent had previously confirmed that Arsenal would have priority with regards to the player’s next steps.

But as it stands, it seems those conversations still haven’t taken place.

In late February, Mark Mann-Bryans broke the news that the Gunners plan to offer a new one-year deal with an option for a second.

If Jorginho accepted, his new contract would take him to 2025, with a club option to extend to 2026.
