Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly among four Premier League clubs in the race to sign England international James Maddison from Leicester City.

The Foxes suffered relegation from the Premier League on the final day of the 2022/23 season and they are expected to overhaul their squad this summer.

Maddison is one player likely to move on before next season as he has done more than enough to earn himself a move to one of the leading clubs in the Premier League.

The midfielder grabbed ten goals and nine assists in the Premier League for the relegated side and they need to sell him this summer but his value declines as he enters the final year of his contract.

The Athletic’s Dan Sheldon is reporting that Arsenal, Man Utd, Newcastle and Spurs ‘have all been linked’ with Maddison, who would cost a minimum of £40m this summer.

‘The 26-year-old has a year left on his contract — dangling the risk of him leaving for nothing in 2024 if he stays; a scenario Leicester will want to avoid as they look to balance their finances — and will not be short of Premier League suitors this summer despite his side’s relegation.

‘Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Arsenal have all been linked with a move for the England international in the past and you would expect there to be a clamour for his signature once the window opens in just over a week.

‘Several intermediaries have suggested to The Athletic that Maddison’s market value — taking into account his contract situation — sits at around £40million, but noted that if multiple clubs come forward, Leicester could get more if a bidding war starts.’

Maddison has admitted that Leicester City’s relegation will “hurt for a very long time”.

“I’ve took (sic) a bit of time to reflect on the outcome of the season and to be honest it doesn’t make it any easier at all. This will hurt for a very long time and probably stick with us all forever.

“But that’s life & it’s about how you bounce back from setbacks & failure and unfortunately that’s exactly what this season was.. a failure. We should never have been in the position we were, with the players we have.

“But we take responsibility for that & the negativity that comes with it & continue to stick together @lcfc.”
