Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Unai Emery and Arsenal will continue their summer rebuild by taking advantage of Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira’s €25m release clause.
The 22-year-old Uruguayan started 36 of Sampdoria’s 38 matches, contributing 4 goals and 1 assist from the defensive midfield position while passing at an 87% rate.
Torreira is set to make an impact in the World Cup for Uruguay, who play in arguably the easiest group in the competition.
He is one of the most prized young talents in Italy and helped lead Sampdoria to a 10th place finish.
Sky Sports reported that Arsenal attempted to sign Fabinho but approached too late as Liverpool had already sealed the deal, and now look to Torreira to be their new number six.
Torreira is known for his very high tactical intelligence and concentration on the pitch and is said to have been previously linked to Juventus and Everton.
