Earlier this week, The Telegraph initially reported that Arsenal had made an enquiry with Inter Milan for Lautaro Martinez, as one of a number of forwards the club are considering before the transfer window closes.

Inter want to keep Martinez and would prefer to extend his contract, but he only has a couple of years left on his deal now.

Pete O’Rourke then reported that Arsenal would be ready and willing to offer Hector Bellerin to Inter in a part-exchange deal. Given Martinez’s price tag of as much as £77m, Arsenal would be paying money on top of the swap.

Given that the interest from Inter in Bellerin and his desire to join the Serie A side appears to be genuine, this could be one way to make the deal happen.

Reports suggest Inter are hoping to sign Bellerin without actually committing to a transfer fee – likely on loan with an option to buy. But a part swap deal would be another way to make that deal happen without Arsenal losing out.

Speaking to The Terrace YouTube channel, O’Rourke added that Arsenal’s interest in Martinez seems really serious, and they haven’t been deterred by his price tag. They just need to come up with an inventive way to reach an agreement with Inter.

It’s certainly an interesting potential deal. Though Martinez is often listed as a centre-forward, he was very much a left-side leaning forward this season. That could really suit Arsenal, who often resort to using the likes of Aubameyang and Nketiah on that side.
