Arsenal requested for Ghana to leave Thomas Partey out of their upcoming round of fixtures, according to a report.

Ghanaian outlet 442 reported on Wednesday that Arsenal had requested that Ghana excuse Thomas Partey from their latest round of fixtures.

Partey is recovering from the injury that saw him miss the end of the club season, and though he’s back in training, Arsenal want him to miss the upcoming AFCON qualifiers as a precautionary measure.

The Black Stars have since announced their squad, and it seems coach Otto Addo has listened to Arsenal and left Partey out.

Partey last played for Arsenal on April 4th, and his injury certainly came at a bad time for Mikel Arteta’s side. He missed the final nine games of the season, and the Gunners lost four of them.

But the major upside is that the 28-year-old now has so much time to recover.

Arsenal won’t kick off their pre-season fixtures until July, giving Partey over a month to get fit. Then he’ll have a full pre-season to return to match sharpness.

In the meantime, Ghana will hope they have enough quality in their squad to overcome Madagascar next Wednesday and the Central African Republic the following Sunday.
