Arsenal are readying an improved bid for Ben White after seeing an initial offer rejected for the Brighton defender.

Arsenal have seen a bid of around £40m for the centre-back rejected by the Seagulls this week, with Brighton understood to be holding out for a figure of £50m for the England international.

White has been identified as the leading defensive target for Mikel Arteta as he bids to overhaul his squad this summer, the 23-year-old having impressed for Brighton after returning from a loan spell at Leeds in 2019/20.

Leeds had been interested in his services on a permanent basis last summer saw a succession of bids – the latest around £25m – rejected, though Brighton are now looking to command double that sum this summer.

White is currently with the England squad at Euro 2020 and football.london are reporting that Arsenal are ready to return instantly with an improved offer, with the Gunners hopeful of finding a compromise in the region of £45m.

White’s age, versatility and comfortability in possession has seen him attract interest from the Emirates as the north London side seek defensive reinforcements, while he has also been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool.

Brighton are understood to be open to the sale of their leading names this summer if huge offers arrive and the likes of Tariq Lamptey and Yves Bissouma have also been tracked by Premier League rivals.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are also hopeful of securing a deal for promising Anderlecht youngster Albert Sambi Lokonga, whilst there is interest from the club in Leicester midfielder James Maddison.

The Gunners are hopeful of raising funds for their summer recruitment drive by selling a host of unwanted stars with Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira, Eddie Nketiah and Sead Kolasinac amongst those available for transfer.

Granit Xhaka is also edging closer to a move to Roma, though Arsenal have rejected a bid of £25m for academy graduate Emile Smith Rowe from Aston Villa.
