Arsenal are ready to make a move for Raheem Sterling this summer, should the Manchester City winger be available for transfer.

The Telegraph report that Arsenal will put Raheem Sterling under strong consideration for a transfer if they secure Champions League football.

Sterling currently only has a contract with Manchester City until 2023, and he’s stalling on a new deal until the end of the season.

That could offer Arsenal the opportunity to tempt the 27-year-old away before he re-signs, as City don’t want to let him leave for free.

Mikel Arteta obviously worked with Sterling at City, and he would be willing to make the England international a key member of his attack. Though other Premier League sides and European teams would provide competition for his signature.

Sterling is having another strong season with his current club, scoring 16 goals and assisting six.

He’s now scored double figures in all competitions in every single season since 2013/14, reaching 20 goals in three of those seasons and 31 goals in his best campaign in 2019/20.

That sort of goalscoring prowess from a player only just entering his peak years would be big for Arsenal, whose current top scorer is Bukayo Saka on 12 goals.

Only Saka and Emile Smith Rowe have hit double figures this season – though Eddie Nketiah is only one away.

Add Sterling and a top striker and Arsenal’s ability to take games to the opposition goes up a level. But it’s yet another potential transfer that will have to wait until Arsenal’s season is over.
