Mikel Arteta named a tried and trusted side here with the likes of Emile Smith Rowe, Nicolas Pépé and Eddie Nketiah all starting.

But they got off to the worst possible start as Johannes Geis opened the scoring for the German side.

And things got even worse just five minutes later as Kwadwo Duah doubled their lead.

Into the second and Gabriel Jesus needed just 90 seconds to open his account for Arsenal as he blasted one in from close range.

Mohamed Elneny then levelled things up for the north London side on 54 minutes before a Christopher Schindler own goal put the Premier League side ahead.

Nürnberg’s terrible second half got even worse just after the hour mark as Tim Handwerker put into his own net.

The hosts got a third goal against the run of play on 73 minutes but then just minutes later Jesus got his second of the afternoon as Arsenal grabbed five.
