As it stands, Mikel Arteta’s side are still capable of winning this season’s Premier League, but only if Manchester City slip up at home to West Ham.

If Pep Guardiola’s team get all three points, it doesn’t matter what Arsenal do. City will be champions.

All the same, Josh Kroenke says the club are proud of their progress this campaign, and they’ll keep pushing for more, whatever happens on the final day.

“While we are undoubtedly proud of the progress we have made, I want to be clear that no one at the club will stand still,” Kroenke said.

“However things finish today, we’re all working behind the scenes to move us forward – always forward – again.

“There is so much that we want to achieve, both at home and in Europe, and we are focused on writing some exciting new stories and chapters that build on the history of Arsenal Football Club.

“To be fighting for the Premier League title on the final day of the campaign is a testament to the hard work, drive and determination of everyone at the club.

“So, too, is the fact we reached the Champions League quarter-final for the first time in 14 years and made it back-to-back Champions League qualifications for the first time in seven years.

“That said, what has arguably given many of us the greatest pleasure is the connection we’ve felt between us all. The noise and backing given to our players again this season has played a huge part in what we have achieved together.”

Arsenal have consistently moved in one direction during Arteta’s tenure as manager. After an eighth-place finish and 61 points in his first full campaign, the Gunners climbed to fifth and 69 points in his second, then second and 84 points in his third.

Even if Arsenal end up finishing second again this season, they’ll have at least 86 points, another improvement compared to the previous campaign.

That improved total was achieved whilst simultaneously taking on a return to the Champions League, and getting as far in the competition as the team have managed in many years.

It hasn’t been a perfect season, and it’s likely Arsenal will end it without any trophies – barring the Community Shield. But the improvement is there to see, and it seems the club’s owners are determined to push on again this summer.
