Arsenal have opted to recall goalkeeper Fran Stenson from her season-long loan spell at Barclays Women’s Championship club Birmingham City.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from Birmingham City this afternoon.

The 21-year-old former England youth international goalkeeper joined The Blues on a season-long loan deal from Arsenal back in July. Stenson has struggled for game time this season and her parent club have opted to terminate the loan ahead of schedule. The youngster was in her second spell at Birmingham City after starting out with the Midlands club at the beginning of her career.

Following her initial spell with the Blues, Stenson joined Manchester City where she largely provided goalkeeping cover, along with representing the club at academy level. The youngster then joined Arsenal in 2019 where she has continued her development. In her time with The Gunners, Stenson has been loaned out on three occasions. In addition to her loan spell at Birmingham City, she has also spent time with Blackburn Rovers and Brighton & Hove Albion.

It is unknown whether Arsenal will look to loan Stenson to another club for the second half of this season in a bid for her to get some game time under her belt.
