Arsenal will have Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic ‘on their radar’ ahead of the summer window, journalist Pete O’Rourke has suggested to GiveMeSport.

The Gunners have been known to be in the market for engine room reinforcements over the last six months or so, although they did manage to bring in Jorginho from Chelsea in January.

According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Milinkovic-Savic has made the decision to depart Lazio at the end of the season regardless of whether they qualify for the Champions League or not.

The 27-year-old is said to have made an ‘irreversible decision’ as he is eager to try a new experience having been at the Stadio Olimpico since 2015.

Milinkovic-Savic’s current £75,000-per-week contract is due to expire in the summer of 2024, and Lazio owner Claudio Lotito is said to have been unsuccessful in his attempts to tie the midfielder down to fresh terms.

Arsenal are believed to ‘remain the favourite destination’ for the Serbia international, who Lotito previously valued at €100 million (£88.8m).

The original report states that Lazio would even be lucky to receive up to €60m (£53.3m) for Milinkovic-Savic now given his contract status.

What has O’Rourke said about Milinkovic-Savic?

O’Rourke has disclosed that he believes ‘a lot of clubs’ will be vying for Milinkovic-Savic’s signature in the summer and that Arsenal are likely to be one of them.

In an interview with GMS, he said: “There'll be a lot of clubs competing for his signature, but we know that Arsenal are looking for midfield reinforcements having missed out on Moises Caicedo in January.

“So, I'm sure Milinkovic-Savic is someone who is on their radar as well.”

Would Milinkovic-Savic be a good signing?

As O’Rourke outlined, Arsenal missed out on Brighton ace Caicedo in the winter transfer window, and they have since been credited with an interest in West Ham’s Declan Rice.

However, Milinkovic-Savic could be the best value-for-money options around given the trio’s respective valuations.

The 6 foot 4 box-to-box star enjoyed an impressive 2021/22, registering 11 goals and 12 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions for Lazio.

14 goal contributions in his opening 29 games of the season.

That sort of output will surely be appealing to Mikel Arteta, and the Arsenal hierarchy could view his availability as an opportunity too good to turn down.
