Arsenal are big admirers of Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee and are convinced he would fit in perfectly with the rest of the squad.

The Gunners are widely expected to land a new centre-forward with Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah struggling for consistency.

Kai Havertz has provided a good solution over the past few months, but manager Mikel Arteta will undoubtedly want another specialist in the role.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Gunners could be front-runners to sign Zirkzee ahead of AC Milan, Juventus and Napoli.

The London giants reportedly like Zirkzee ‘a lot’ and are ‘convinced’ that his physical and technical qualities match perfectly with the rest of the team.

With the ‘greater economic availability’ and ‘great charm’, it is reported that Arsenal could win the auction for the striker, who is valued in the region of €70 million.

Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko are other options for Arsenal this summer.

Zirkzee would not take Arsenal to the next level

Arsenal have made good progress for a second straight year, but they still lack the presence of a centre-forward who can guarantee 20-25 goals per season.

The club are likely to prioritise signing a striker this summer. However, they should avoid making an approach for Zirkzee, who has yet to find consistency.

The Dutchman has registered only 11 goals and six assists in 33 appearances this campaign.

The 22-year-old has impressed with his hold-up play and distribution from deeper positions, but Arsenal need a centre-forward who can find the back of the net.

Zirkzee does not appear to be the solution with average returns. For the huge price mentioned, the club should instead focus on landing Gyokeres from Sporting.

The Swede has been in the form of his life with 36 goals and 16 assists this term. He has a €100m release clause, but Sporting could be open to lowering the fee.
