Gabri Veiga has attracted interest from Napoli, Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle United.

According to reports, Italian champions Napoli are in pole position to sign Celta Vigo youngster Gabri Veiga ahead of a host of Premier League clubs.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed on Monday that Napoli had a bid worth €30million (£25.8million) rejected by the La Liga outfit, who will only sell if the player’s €40m (£34.4m) release clause is triggered.

Veiga is one of the most sought-after players in Europe after a great season with Celta, attracting interest from Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle United, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite interest from the Premier League, the 21-year-old looked increasingly likely to join PSG earlier this summer, though it appears talks have broken down, giving Napoli the chance to capitalise.

The French giants even scheduled a medical for the Spain Under-21 midfielder, reports suggested.

A few weeks on, it looks like Veiga will move to Naples, as long as Rudi Garcia’s side agree a fee with Celta, or pay the player’s £34.4m buyout clause.

Romano added on Wednesday that Napoli have made a fresh bid to sign Veiga, believed to be worth “€32/33m with add-ons”.

The Italian journalist also confirmed that the Celta starlet has “accepted Napoli”.

He wrote on Twitter: “Understand Napoli sent new formal bid to Celta Vigo for Gabri Veiga. Initial bid exclusively revealed was €30m — rejected on Monday.

“Napoli have gone higher up to €32/33m with add-ons. No green light from Celta yet but talks continue. Gabri Veiga already accepted Napoli.”

The Serie A side are also close to signing Stade Reims midfielder Jean Cajuste, though Romano says this will have no impact on their desire to buy Veiga this summer.

Napoli will apparently pay €12m to sign Cajuste, who has 15 caps for Sweden.

Garcia has done well to keep hold of Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia after their terrific 2022/23 campaign under Luciano Spaletti.

Out of the two, Osimhen looked more likely to depart this summer but the club’s whopping £150m valuation of the Nigerian has successfully fended off interested parties.
