Arsenal are set to be without new signing Mikel Merino until mid-October at the earliest according to a report from the Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel.

The midfielder, who only joined from Real Sociedad last week, suffered a fractured shoulder in a training ground collision with Gabriel, and now it appears the timeline for his recovery has been established.

The news is a major blow for Mikel Arteta, and was only compounded by Declan Rice’s red card against Brighton over the weekend, which means he will also miss the North London Derby after the international break.

If Merino does return in mid-October, following that month’s international break, he could make his debut for the Gunners in the October 20th clash with Bournemouth.
