Arsenal have narrowed their search to two targets in the club’s search to sign a centre-forward next summer.

Mikel Arteta wants to add a recognised number nine to his squad after the failure to sign a striker in this summer’s transfer window.

Arsenal failed with a move to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, who snubbed interest from the Premier League in favour of signing a new contract with the Bundesliga side.

Arsenal expected to resume Sesko chase

However, the Gunners are expected to resume their interest in signing the Slovenia internatonal, whose new deal is understood to contain a release clause. It is unclear the fee specified, though his previous deal contained a release clause of €65m (£54.8m).

Sesko turned down interest from England to continue his development at Leipzig, where the 21-year-old scored 18 goals in 42 appearances last season.

After struggling for minutes following his initial arrival from Red Bull Salzburg, Sesko ended the season in fine form and became the youngest ever player to score in seven consecutive Bundesliga games.

Arsenal remain interested in a deal for the 6ft 5in forward and CaughtOffside are reporting that the North Londoners are ‘confident’ of winning a competitive race for his signature. AC Milan, Manchester United and Chelsea were among Sesko’s suitors in the summer.

Thuram a transfer target for Arsenal

The Gunners are understood to have shortlisted Inter Milan forward Marcus Thuram as a potential alternative.

Thuram has been a big hit since signing for Inter from Borussia Monchengladbach on a free transfer in 2023. The 27-year-old has scored 17 goals in 38 league appearances, including four in three to start the 2024/25 campaign.

He formed an excellent partnership with Lautaro Martinez during Inter’s title success last season and can also operate in a wide role.
