Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has cooled fears that William Saliba has suffered a serious injury, revealing the defender is struggling with a twisted ankle.
Saliba was forced to come off after just five minutes of Sunday’s defeat to Liverpool, with Cristhian Mosquera replacing him.
Arteta has explained that Saliba twisted his ankle in the warm-up, but he wanted to try and play the game.
The defender went down after challenging Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike for a header and immediately signalled for treatment.
Saliba was unable to carry on and went down the tunnel for treatment, although he was able to sit on the bench in the second half and watch the rest of the game.
"He twisted his ankle during the warm-up," the Gunners boss said.
"He came in and he said he believed that he could carry on and play but straightaway in the first two actions I could see that he couldn't cope and we had to get him out, unfortunately.
“But thank God we have Mosquera, which we put in for the first time in the Premier League, his debut, not expecting it at Anfield and I think he was really, really good.”
