Charlie Patino has decided to leave Arsenal after failing to break into manager Mikel Arteta’s plans, according to the Evening Standard.

The Hale End graduate is currently on loan in the Championship with Swansea City after spending last term in the division with Blackpool.

Patino has made two appearances for Arsenal and appears to have played his last game for them given the stiff competition for playing opportunities.

He will be behind Ethan Nwaneri in the pecking order if he returns to the club, with Arteta ready to give the 17-year-old a first-team push after he signed his first professional contract last month.

With just over a year left on Patino’s deal, the Arsenal boss is expected to sanction his exit this summer to allow the Gunners to cash in on him before his contract expires. Clubs in Spain are interested in him.

Having bagged four goals and four assists this term, the young midfielder will not be short of suitors in the summer transfer window.

Patino has already been linked with Juventus, and more clubs will emerge for his services when it becomes clear Arsenal are ready to sell.

Another loan move is ruled out for the England youth international, and returning to the club is not a realistic target for either party, so parting ways permanently is all but guaranteed.

The top-notch quality of the first-team squad under Arteta has made it difficult for Patino to get any major opportunities at a run of games.
