According to Fanatik, Galatasaray are closing in on Mohamed Elneny. The Turkish giants are expected to hold talks with Arsenal representatives over a potential €2 million swoop for the midfielder. The player is believed to be keen on leaving Emirates and his contract could be terminated by mutual consent in the upcoming January transfer window. Mohamed Elneny’s Struggles At Arsenal

After returning to Emirates with high ambitions last summer, following a successful loan spell at Besiktas, Mohamed Elneny has struggled under Mikel Arteta so far.

The midfielder did manage 40 competitive appearances for the team last season, but he wasn’t able to make a solid impression, often struggling with a lack of consistency. His lack of quality in build-up or passing also forced Arteta to look for options in the market.

Sure enough, the Spaniard brought in Albert Sambi Lokonga in the summer, while Thomas Partey’s return to full fitness has considerably minimised Elneny’s game-time. In fact, the Egyptian international has featured in only one Premier League game so far while his only start came in the Carabao Cup win over West Brom.

It is apparent that the former FC Basel starlet is not included in Arteta’s first-team plans this season, thus putting Galatasaray on red alert.

Should Arsenal Offload Him In January?

Mohamed Elneny’s potential January transfer to Galatasaray could be a logical move for all parties involved. For the player, it is an opportunity to revive his career after a disappointing spell at Arsenal. He already has performed well in the Turkish Superlig, during his time at Besiktas, meaning he will have a high chance of succeeding at his new club.

As for Arsenal, his departure could open up valuable space in the club’s midfield unit, allowing them to target new players in the January transfer window.  The team is in dire of some quality reinforcements which can offer competition to the likes of Lokonga, Partey and Granit Xhaka.

Not to mention, Elneny’s current contract at Emirates expires at the end of the season. As such, a January exit will allow Arsenal to demand a transfer fee for the midfielder, although it appears Galatasaray are only willing to splash out €2 million.

Nevertheless, the move will be a step in the right direction as Arsenal continue their overhaul under Arteta while Elneny will hope for a swift revival after a disappointing few years in North London.
