“It's been a while since now, really. It was really because I never used it and had no need for it," Odegaard told TV2 in Norway.

“I think a lot of rubbish in general is there. I have no need to be there. I probably did not have a Twitter update for a long time, then I thought there was no point in having it, so then I just deleted it."

Odegaard encouraged others to follow his lead in moving away from social media, warning younger players that reading so much negativity online can prove detrimental.

“There's a lot of rubbish, simply. You have to be a little careful about what you are exposed to," Odegaard said.

“For my part, I have no need to sit there and look at all that.

“A lot of it is anonymous and a lot of weird. It's a little scary thing if you are not completely in place in your head, then you can be influenced by such things.

“I would especially say to young players that one should be careful not to look too much at such things. It can be a lot of negative stuff."
