Arsenal make ridiculous offer to Ander Herrera

Arsenal have reportedly, and you’re going to want to sit down for this, tried to stop Ander Herrera’s move to PSG by offering him more than the £200kpw the French giants have offered to lure him to Paris on a free.

That’s right. Arsenal are going to give Ander Herrera more money than they were prepared to give Aaron Ramsey despite the Welshman being a far better player who is also younger.

A few days ago it was reported that Herrera was set to join PSG on a free transfer when his contract expired in the summer. Despite wanting to stay at United, no contract was forthcoming that met the demands of his agent so in stepped PSG.

That seemed to spell the end of Arsenal’s interest until L’Equipe informed us, via The Guardian, that the Gunners were making a big move for the player because Unai Emery is a huge fan.

Speaking to the media, Herrera gave something of an update on his situation towards the end of March. “It is logical [to be linked with other clubs] when you have three months of contract [left],” he told El Periodico. “I take it as normal. I focus on football in the month and a half [of the season] that remains.

“The rest is left to my agent, both the possible renewal with United and if you talk to another club, so I do not know if my stage is over.

“I enjoy being at the biggest club in England. The fans have treated me phenomenally and my duty is to listen to them, although I do not know what is going to happen.”

Leaving aside the pros and cons of signing Ander Herrera, we hear constantly that the club are trying to offload players tied to large salaries (Ozil, Mkhitaryan etc) yet we are expected to believe they’re just going to turn around and blow it like this?

Of course, I’ve been as dismissive of this as I could be so that probably means it will happen.
