Arsenal have apparently made a ‘real attempt’ to sign Inter Milan’s Achraf Hakimi, but the player seems set to remain in Italy.

A little over a week ago, Arsenal were reportedly preparing a concrete offer for Achraf Hakimi ahead of the summer transfer market, according to reports in Spain.

AS reported that Mikel Arteta would welcome the signing of Achraf Hakimi this summer, as the addition of a right-back is one of his priorities for the upcoming transfer window. The same outlet added that Arsenal were preparing a firm offer for the player.

It seems like that won’t matter, however, with a report from Italy now stating that the player will be going nowhere this summer.

FC Inter News state that, although Arsenal made a ‘real attempt’ to woo Hakimi, the player ‘didn’t even listen’ to what they had to say.

They write, “London calls, but Inter and Achraf Hakimi have hung up the phone. In fact, there is no interest in listening to proposals from other clubs either from the Nerazzurri club or from the Moroccan full-back.

“In recent days, as reported by the English newspapers, Arsenal had come forward for Hakimi, but Inter did not even want to listen to any proposals.”

Back in February, it was claimed that Arsenal could possibly take advantage of the financial problems at Inter. The Athletic reported that, despite Hakimi’s hugely positive impression in Serie A this season, Inter Milan might sell him to the Premier League in the summer anyway.

Arsenal have reportedly tracked the player heavily in the past and their scouts recommended his signing. It looked a genuine possibility until he made such great progress on loan at Borussia Dortmund, his value skyrocketed. Inter paid £36m to sign him from Real Madrid in September.

Arsenal allegedly considered him last summer before he made that move but were put off by the price and their preference to hold onto Hector Bellerin, who now looks set to leave this summer.

It was claimed Hakimi would cost around £40m but now it seems he is off the table altogether.
