Arsenal make ‘approach’ for Real Madrid’s Odegaard | OneFootball

Arsenal have reportedly made an ‘approach’ for Martin Odegaard with the midfielder keen to leave Real Madrid on loan in search of regular first-team football.

Odegaard became a household name when signing for Real Madrid as a 16-year-old in 2015, with a host of Europe’s leading clubs having expressed an interest in the preciously talented Norwegian teenager.

His progress since has included loan spells at the likes of Heerenveen and Vitesse in the Netherlands, before an impressive temporary stint at Real Sociedad last season that saw the midfielder score seven goals and provide a further nine assists in all competitions.

Odegaard returned to Real Madrid during the summer and had hoped to break into the side following the departures of Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez, but has started just three league fixtures and is now keen to ensure his development does not stall with another loan move.

According to Sky Sports, Arsenal have now made an approach as Mikel Arteta desperately seeks additional creativity to his side, the north London side having been linked with a host of playmakers this winter including Norwich’s Emiliano Buendia and Odegaard’s Real Madrid teammate, Isco.

The Gunners have largely struggled for goals this season despite a recent mini-revival and Arteta believes further invention is required in his side, the termination of Sokratis’ contract and impending announcement of Mesut Ozil’s departure having freed up funds.

However, Arsenal look set to face competition for Odegaard with Real Sociedad also keen on resigning the 22-year-old as they bid to boost their hopes of securing a top four finish and Champions League qualification, having seen a bright start fade with four defeats in their past six fixtures.
