Arsenal reportedly bid £34m to try and sign Marco Asensio over the summer but Real Madrid convinced the player to stay.

Marco Asensio turned Arsenal down in 2014 and it seems that, seven years later, the Gunner’s were no more fortunate in their attempts to sign him.

Over the summer, it even got to the point that Mundo Deportivo were calling Arsenal ‘Asensio’s last suitor’ but it was unclear how much truth there was at the time to Arsenal’s alleged interest in the player.

It seems Asensio was keen on leaving having seen his playing time diminish under Zinedine Zidane, but Carlo Ancelotti convinced him to stay at the club, allowing them to turn down a £34m bid from Arsenal.

Others were said to be interested in signing him, but the report on Radio Cadena Ser claimed only Arsenal tabled a bid.
