Gündoğan’s contract with Man City expires next month with Pep Guardiola’s side reportedly in talks with the midfielder to extend his stay at the Etihad.

Barcelona have been heavily linked with a move for the 32-year-old but David Ornstein has today confirmed that Arsenal will try and sign the Germany international for next term.

His same report also reveals that Arsenal are looking to land both Declan Rice and Mason Mount over the summer in a bid to finally topple City at the top of the Premier League.

Both Rice and Mount have just 12 months’ left on their respective deals at West Ham and Chelsea and have been heavily linked with moves during the next window.

Arsenal’s form at the end of this campaign has been a cause for concern with the north London side winning just three of their last nine games.

A summer splurge is now expected in the hope that they can land the title come next May.
