Arsenal are ‘looking at other players’ with a switch for Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans now ‘uncertain’, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Gunners have been linked with Tielemans for a January transfer move, but recent developments indicate that Mikel Arteta may have to move on to other targets to bring to the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal Transfer News – Youri Tielemans

Football London report that Arsenal went in for the Belgium international in the summer transfer window, but they were unwilling to match the £25m fee that his current club wanted, so talks broke down.

As per Fabrizio Romano, who was writing for CaughtOffside, the central-midfielder is interested in a move to north London as he wants to play Champions League football, but Arteta could now be turning his attention towards other targets.

InterLive claim that the Gunners are plotting a move for Hakan Calhanoglu in a deal that could be worth £26m, who the Express state could be an alternative signing to the Leicester man, while is is also indicated that the likes of Danilo, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Ruben Neves may also be considered.

What has Jones said about Tielemans?

Jones believes that Arsenal are currently weighing up potential options in the centre of midfield, and may choose not to swoop for Tielemans, telling GIVEMESPORT: “Maybe some of it is around the fee, maybe it’s to do with Leicester not wanting to sell there and then.

Also it’s to do with the fact that Arsenal have got their feelers out and are looking at other players right now, so I still think the Tielemans situation is quite uncertain.

How did Tielemans perform in Belgium vs Morocco?

The Sint-Pieters-Leeuw born maestro only featured for 30 minutes in Belgium’s shock 2-0 defeat against Morocco, in what was a very disappointing team display, but he was one of the side’s better performers in his limited cameo.

As per SofaScore, the 25-year-old displayed a good passing range by completing one long ball, while also weighing in with a 93% pass accuracy to boot.

It was his defensive duties that really flourished in the performance, however, winning every single one of his ground and aerial duels to retain possession for his side, as per SofaScore, while also making one interception and two tackles, according to WhoScored.

With that in mind, Tielemans could prove to be a very astute signing for Arsenal at the base of their midfield, providing good competition for the likes of Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka in the latter stages of the season, when a bigger squad is needed to compete on all fronts.
