WhoScored announced their Team of the Week for Serie A on Tuesday, with Pablo Mari making it into the side. Mari received a 7.9 rating, boosted by his goal for Udinese against Spezia Calcio.
The goal was Mari’s second in four games, a nice flicked header from a set piece, though it ended up being of little consequence.
Scored in the 94th minute with Udinese 3-1 down, Mari’s effort was nothing more than a consolation.
All the same, it was another positive moment for Mari on a successful loan spell so far.
The Arsenal centre-back has made 15 appearances for Udinese since his January transfer, starting every game since his debut other than the one for which he was suspended.
Perhaps it’s no surprise that Udinese are therefore making an effort to keep the defender around. Reports suggest they’ve offered €4m to make the move permanent.
That sort of fee would reportedly not be enough to convince Arsenal to sell, but negotiations are ongoing and it seems likely the two clubs will eventually reach a consensus.
Mari was very much out of favour at Arsenal before his loan, and bringing any money in for him would be a positive. Particularly given he didn’t sign for a huge fee in the first place, so even €4m wouldn’t be a major loss.
You can watch Mari’s goal from this weekend here from 2:39.
