Fabio Vieira was making the final Liga Portugal appearance of his 2024/25 loan to FC Porto on Saturday, with the team taking on CD Nacional.
Porto were playing for a spot in next season’s Europa League, though they only needed a draw to mathematically guarantee it. Vieira was named in the starting lineup, and things got off to a good start as Francisco Moura gave Porto a 1-0 lead.
There was a scare for Vieira shortly after that, as he was adjudged to have conceded a soft penalty in the ninth minute. But Diogo Costa was on hand to save the spot-kick and keep his team ahead.

Less than 10 minutes later, Vieira should have had an assist as his perfectly whipped free-kick landed right on the head of Ivan Marcano just yards out, but Marcano put his attempt wide. And he picked up a yellow card for a foul just before the half-time break.
Vieira was unfortunate not to score in the second half, running onto a cutback in the centre of the penalty area but seeing his effort cannon back off the crossbar.
Porto secured the win with two more goals in the final 21 minutes, ending the league season with a third-place finish.

Vieira’s spell with Porto isn’t over yet, with reports suggesting he’ll stick around with the club for the Club World Cup. After that, his longer-term future is unclear.
