Arsenal‘s Leah Williamson has shown that the magic of the FA Cup is very much real after a wholesome exchange with an upcoming rival player.

The Gunners are set to take on Leeds in the fourth round of the FA Cup at the end of the month and striker Amy Woodruff has already decided which opposition player’s shirt she would like at full-time.

The forward took to Twitter to ask Williamson if she could have her jersey after the match and it seems she wasn’t actually prepared for the response she received.

What did Leah Williamson say?

The FA Cup brings teams together who perhaps wouldn’t usually play against each other, and it gives players the chance to go head-to-head with their idols.

Woodruff had already expressed how excited she was to come up against England captain Williamson when Leeds travel down south for the clash.

“I’m gonna play against Leah Williamson, I’ve already won no matter [the] result,” Woodruff wrote on Twitter.

She then tagged the Arsenal star and asked if she could have her shirt after the match.

Perhaps not actually expecting a response, Woodruff couldn’t believe Williamson agreed to exchange shirts at full-time.

“Can we swap?” Williamson wrote with a smiling emoji. “See you on the 29th.”

Woodruff, who signed for Leeds in March 2022 after scoring 16 goals in 20 matches for Brighouse Town, sent a touching message back.

“This is a madness, no wonder she’s one of the biggest inspirations to women’s football,” she wrote after thanking the Euro 2022 winner.

What have fans said about the exchange?

Women’s football fans are loving the interaction between Williamson and Woodruff and have praised the England skipper for her gesture.

“The sweetest interaction ever, Leah is truly the best idol,” one supporter wrote.

“Top response from a top professional,” said another. “Well played, what sports(wo)manship is all about!”

“Why can’t football always be this wholesome?” asked a third.

Arsenal will host Leeds on January 29th in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The away side enter the clash after a 3-1 win over Stoke in the previous round, while Jonas Eidevall’s team are ready to face their first fixture of the tournament having been exempt up until this stage.
