Arsenal are reportedly making serious moves for Bologna‘s in-form striker Joshua Zirkzee, positioning themselves as frontrunners in a transfer battle heating up by the day if you pay close attention to the Italian media.

Reports from Italy suggest Arsenal have gone beyond mere interest, preparing a lucrative salary offer that could prove decisive in swaying the young Dutch star.

Zirkzee’s emergence as a sought-after player is no surprise. His 11 goals and six assists this season show his attacking ability, making him the kind of versatile striker Arsenal desperately need. While Victor Osimhen was initially a dream target, Napoli‘s astronomical price tag has forced Arsenal to be pragmatic. Zirkzee, though still a significant investment, represents a more realistic option.

Italian sources like Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport paint Arsenal as determined suitors, willing to outbid Serie A giants like AC Milan and Juventus. A key factor, beyond just financial muscle, is Arsenal‘s “great charm.” This likely refers to their attractive playing style under Mikel Arteta, and the opportunity to be part of a Premier League title-chasing project – something his Italian club currently cannot offer.

Bologna‘s unexpected success this season is a double-edged sword. While manager Thiago Motta deserves immense credit, the team’s rise has put their stars in the shop window. Bologna is understandably concerned about losing key players like Zirkzee and will drive a hard bargain. Still, Arsenal‘s willingness to act quickly and decisively gives them an edge.

AC Milan, in particular, won’t give up on Zirkzee easily. Their technical director, Geoffrey Moncada, and influential advisor Zlatan Ibrahimović see the Dutchman as a key piece in their rebuilding project. However, Arsenal‘s financial offer and the lure of the Premier League could prove too tempting for Zirkzee to resist.

Arsenal‘s pursuit of Zirkzee is promising, but hardly a done deal. They’re smart to prioritise a striker with his qualities – someone who can score goals, link-up play, and fit seamlessly into Arteta‘s system. Still, the reported €70m price tag is hefty and Zirkee’s adaption is not guaranteed. Arsenal must be sure he’s not just a one-season wonder before committing to such an investment.
