Indeed, it was put to Wilder by the Norwegian outlet that the Blades may struggle to keep hold of Berge should he maintain his current form - something the United manager agreed with.

Wilder said, "We understand that. The £20 million we paid for Sander is not a big deal for a player like him. It felt great for us, because we have not been in that market for 25 years, but now it is nothing.

"Sander was a fantastic signing for us. We want him to grow with us, but we understand that the big clubs are interested when he performs so well. That means we, and Sander, are doing something right."

Berge moved to Bramall Lane from Genk last January for a record fee for Sheffield United. The 22 year-old agreeing to join the Blades after shining for Genk in thier Champions League group campaign. He was signed on a four-and-a-half year contract at the time.

This season, Berge has managed ten appearances with United, one in the Carabao Cup, and has scored once.

After defeat at home to West Ham United on Sunday, the Blades sit bottom of the table winless and with just the one point from nine games. Burnley are four points ahead of United sitting outside the dropzone in 17th place.
