Arsenal: Jonas Eidevall and new signings have transformed expectations

I’m in love with how this Arsenal team has started the season. I understand, I’m probably not like most fans in the sense that, I was nervous going into the start of the season. For example, I had heard rumours of Leah Williamson and Vivianne Miedema leaving after the 2021/22 season.

The thought of losing them made me terrified because they are key components in this Arsenal side. We had already lost Danielle van De Donk and Jill Roord, so I started to think about what will this Arsenal team achieve going into the season.

Arsenal, Eidevall and ambitious moves

An explosion of moves, acquisitions and additions made this team ready. When you bring in a player like Tobin Heath, that tells people that you want all the belts. You want to compete for every trophy possible. Her signing showed the board are determined to keep their stars while challenging for silverware. That’s what we need.

We brought in a World Cup champion to give us that winning DNA, which I feel every contending team needs in order to get to the top of the mountain.

New Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall has also been a revelation to this side. Seeing a coach fall to his knees in jubilation at the final whistle gives me goosebumps. That opening weekend win against Chelsea gave me hope this year can be different.

It’s early days so, I must keep both feet on the ground, no matter how difficult it may be when this Arsenal team is so special.

Player storylines

The players have storylines almost. Beth Mead is playing out of her skin after not being chosen to go to the Olympics. You’ve got Vivianne Miedema narrowly missing out on Golden Boot – she starts the season all guns blazing.

The players are pumped and raring to go. It’s beautiful to see.

I admit I had no idea who Frida Maanum was before she joined Arsenal. I’m ashamed because she has been incredible. At just 22 years of age, Arsenal has picked up a star.

If the team keeps developing and further strengthening the roster, anything is possible.
