Arsenal are rumoured to have rekindled their desire to sign Real Betis midfielder William Carvalho as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his squad.

As claimed by Fichajes, the Gunners and Newcastle United are interested in signing Carvalho, who is likely to leave at the end of the season.

Per the report, any offer from Arsenal would be difficult to reject with Betis open to the possibility of cashing in this summer.

The north Londoners were linked with a move for the 29-year-old in the past even before he moved to Spain four years ago.

Carvalho has been a mainstay for Manuel Pellegrini’s men this term as they currently sit fifth in La Liga table, although their Europa League journey did end at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt courtesy of a 3-2 aggregate defeat on Thursday.

Back in 2014, the ex-Sporting Lisbon man expressed his desire to play in the Premier League someday and could finally get his wish granted.

He was quoted saying: ”We all have ambitions and I hope one day to play in the best leagues in the world, the English or Spanish. It was not this year, but if I continue to do my job as I have done so, it will certainly come sooner or later.”

Renowned for his ball-winning ability in the middle of the park, Carvalho would certainly be a welcome addition at the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal, in pole position for fourth place in the Premier League, look set to return to the Champions League for the first time since 2017.
