Arsenal have laid eyes on another Serie A star, Marco Carnesecchi, who’s been in brilliant form in recent games and has been one of the main factors behind Atalanta’s ten-game winning streak. The Gunners are looking for a replacement for Norberto Neto, who’s tied to them only until the end of the season, TuttoSport informs (via Fantacalcio).
The shot-stopper is represented by Alessandro Lucci, the same agent as Riccardo Calafiori. The 24-year-old has kept 9 clean sheets and allowed 21 goals in 21 matches this season. La Dea has righted the ship after a disastrous start defensively. They have conceded 10 times in the past 16 tilts, 3 of which in the Real Madrid clash alone.
Carnesecchi has drawn the attention of Arsenal as he has made the leap after Atalanta fully committed to him last summer, sending his previous competitor Juan Musso to Atletico Madrid. He’s under contract until 2026, so the parties will have to start negotiating soon.
The goalie almost left to join Lazio in the past. The Orobici were content with their starter at the time and were eyeing yet another ‘plusvalenza.’ The two clubs had agreed to a €14M fee, but he hurt his shoulder that summer and needed surgery. He has progressively won over Gian Piero Gasperini in the ensuing months.
Unless there are some problems with his extension, Atalanta will likely hold onto him for a long while. Otherwise, if he keeps up his recent performances, he’ll be ready to join a top side soon enough, but as an unquestioned starter.
