Arsenal are one of the clubs interested in Cody Gakpo, though Manchester United and Erik ten Hag seem to be leading the race.

Interest in PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo has shot up again in recent days, with the winger scoring in each one of the Netherlands’ three group games at the World Cup.

Matteo Moretto reports for Relevo that Erik ten Hag has Gakpo first on his list to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, but it’s not just Manchester United in the race.

According to Moretto, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool all like the winger a lot, especially in the wake of his World Cup performances.

PSV are asking for more than €55m (£47.5m) for a fixed fee alone, before considering add-ons, so Gakpo won’t come cheap. PSV probably have in mind the ridiculous fees United paid for a couple of Ajax players over the summer and want something similar.

Moretto claims PSV don’t ideally want to sell in January at all, as they hope Gakpo can help them to win the title, but they would consider letting him go for an irresistible offer.

Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sport Germany reports that talks are ongoing, and a transfer in the winter is still possible.

Arsenal got a first-hand look at Gakpo as Mikel Arteta’s side took on PSV in their Europa League group, and the Gunners also reportedly sent scouts to watch the player again after that.

But Fabrizio Romano recently insisted that Mykhaylo Mudryk remains Arsenal’s priority in the January window, despite links to the likes of Gakpo and Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic.

Manchester United seemingly remain the front-runner for the Dutch international.
