Sky Germany report Arsenal want to sign Jerome Boateng from Bayern in January. The Bundesliga club are willing to sell for €15m (£12.8m) this month, despite their defensive injury problems.
Boateng plays at centre-back, but he can also play at full-back, having done so for Bayern and Germany in the past. He could make good cover for the positions at Arsenal as a result, given the recent injury concerns in both full-back positions.
Obviously, Arsenal would primarily use the 31-year-old centrally. With Calum Chambers out and a host of unreliable options starting in his place, the Gunners could use the help.
In recent days, the media linked Arsenal to a move for Dayot Upamecano. However, Sky Germany claim Leipzig don’t want to sell in January. They’re fighting at the top of the Bundesliga and in the Round-of-16 in the Champions League right now.
There are high hopes for William Saliba, but he’s likely to remain with Saint-Etienne until the end of the season. Perhaps a player with as much experience as Boateng could help steady the ship until then.
