In a recent edition of the Daily Briefing, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that Arsenal have identified Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes as a target. It has been mentioned that the Gunners are eyeing a move to land the Brazilian talent in the upcoming transfer period.

Guimaraes’ Decent Numbers At St. James’ Park This Season

Guimaraes has enjoyed another impressive campaign at the Tyneside club after putting in a series of impressive performances for them in the middle of the park. The 26-year-old has registered four goals and eight assists in 44 matches for the Magpies this season across all competitions.

The Brazilian midfield ace has been a positive influence in both halves based on his average of 2.3 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 0.6 clearances, 1.2 shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.9 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from midfield after completing 85.7% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).

His current deal with the Magpies will expire in the summer of 2028 which could make it difficult for the Gunners to land him on a cut-price deal later this year.

Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Move In For Guimaraes?

Guimaraes is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team at the centre of the park. He doesn’t hesitate to clear his lines when needed and can even shoot the ball with power and precision from long range.

The Brazilian sensation can create some decent plays for others around him in the final third and is a good dribbler with the ball as well. He mainly functions as a holding midfielder but can also serve as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so.

Guimaraes would no doubt enhance the quality of Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta‘s starting XI. He could go on to form a dominant midfield partnership with Declan Rice at the North London club in the coming years.

At 26, Guimaraes is about to enter his prime and is well-equipped to make an instant impact at the Emirates Stadium. Therefore, the Gunners would be wise to move in for him when the transfer window reopens in the summer.
