The Athletic (subscription required) has recently reported that Arsenal have identified Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves as a target. It is believed that the Gunners are hoping to strengthen their squad by sealing a move for the Portuguese playmaker after failing to recruit him last summer.

Neves’ Solid Campaign In English Football This Season

Neves is having another impressive season at the Molineux Stadium as he has continued to produce a series of influential displays at the heart of Wolves’ midfield. The Portugal international has found the back of the net twice and provided one assist in 21 appearances for the West Midlands club this season in multiple competitions.

The 24-year-old has been a consistent performer for Brugo Lage’s side based on his average of 2.2 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 1.2 clearances, 1.2 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).

What Will Neves Add To Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta’s Team?

Neves has a wide range of passes under his belt and can often unlock the opposition defence with his vision. He is a pure striker of the ball and can generate a lot of venom with his shot attempts from long range.

The 26-time Portugal international loves a tackle in midfield and can time his challenges well to make a few crucial interceptions for his team. He usually clears the danger when needed but can sometimes lack the pace to make recovering runs inside his half.

At 24, Neves is yet to enter his prime, so Arsenal can expect to make the most out of his services if they can figure out a way to get a deal done for him this month or in the summer.

The Wolves star will add some creativity and dynamism to Mikel Arteta‘s midfield and could help the Gunners become top-four regulars in the Premier League once again in the coming seasons. With all things considered, Arteta would be wise to engineer a move to bring Neves to the Emirates Stadium as he has the makings of a top talent and could become a real fan-favourite at the North London club.
