In a recent report, The Evening Standard stated that Arsenal have identified Real Sociedad forward Alexander Isak as a target this month. It is understood that the Gunners are eyeing the Swedish frontman as a potential alternative for Dusan Vlahovic with Mikel Arteta eager to land a new striker during this January transfer window.

Isak’s Impressive Run Of Form At The Reale Arena

Isak has enjoyed a decent campaign in Spanish football. He has done well to perform at a high level as the spearhead of Real Sociedad’s attack.

The 22-year-old has featured in 25 matches for the Spanish side this season, scoring eight goals and providing two assists in the process across multiple competitions.

Isak has led the line well for Sociedad based on his average of 2.1 shots, 0.4 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per game in La Liga. However, he needs to work on improving his link-up play if he wants to taste success at the highest level after he completed only 72.4% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top-flight (stats via whoscored).

Should Arsenal Get Isak On Board This Month?

Isak is proficient at generating a yard of space for himself to get a few shot attempts in on-target. He has proven himself to be a good finisher in front of the opposition goal. The Swedish talent can even use his pace to make some dangerous runs with the ball in behind the opponent’s backline. However, as mentioned earlier, his link-up play has a lot of room for improvement.

Isak is far from a finished product but has shown plenty of promising signs with his performances this season. Hence, he could be a good option for the Gunners as Mikel Arteta is in dire need of a new center-forward who can offer some competition for Alexandre Lacazette. Isak fits the bill perfectly as he ticks all the right boxes in terms of what Arteta demands from his forwards.

The Real Sociedad star is good enough to help the North London outfit maintain their push for a top-four spot in the Premier League this season. Therefore, Arteta would be wise to get Isak on board before the end of this transfer window.
