In a recent report from Football.London, it was stated that Arsenal are still interested in signing Ruben Neves from Wolverhampton Wanderers next summer. However, it was also mentioned that the Portuguese midfielder has seemingly ruled out the possibility of joining any other club after Barcelona came knocking. The Catalan club are showing keen interest in brining him to Nou Camp next year, so it could be difficult for the Gunners to acquire him.

Neves’ Recent Run Of Form For Wolves

The 25-year-old is experiencing a decent run at the Molineux Stadium. The defensive midfielder has found the back of the net on one occasion over seven appearances appearances for Wolves this season.

The Portuguese international has been very reliable and consistent in the centre of the park after averaging 1.6 shots, 1.0 key passes, 3.9 tackles, 2.0 interceptions and 3.1 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been accurate in distributing the ball from the back after completing 85.5 % of his attempted passes in the English top-flight so far (stats via whoscored).

Can Arteta Lure Him To Arsenal?

At 25, Neves’ best days are still ahead of him and the defensive midfielder has a lot to offer on the pitch. He remains a solid tackler of the ball and can even create some promising opportunities for others around him in the opposition half.

The 1.8 m tall midfielder is weak in aerial battles but remains a force to be reckoned with in the central areas of the pitch. Neves has the knack for striking the ball with power and accuracy from long range. Furthermore, he can distribute the ball with efficiency and make some decisive passes in the final third. Ruben Neves’ technical abilities could add more depth to a squad’s defence and the offence alike.

However, Mikel Arteta would have to make a lucrative offer to Wolves to convince them in selling their prized asset. Moreover it will be difficult to come to terms with the Portugal international should Barcelona make an offer which deal the Gunners a huge blow. Arteta would be wise to find more potential targets in case they lose out to the Catalan club.
