In a recent report, Il Messaggero revealed that Arsenal have tabled an offer for Napoli midfielder Sergej Milinković-Savić this summer. It has been claimed that the Gunners could face competition in the form of Newcastle United for the Serbian midfield ace.
Milinkovic-Savic had a fruitful season in Serie A as he produced several impressive performances at the centre of Napoli’s midfield. The Spain-born talent found the back of the net on 11 occasions and secured 12 assists in 47 matches for the Italian side in the previous campaign in multiple competitions.
The Serbia international proved himself to be a consistent performer in midfield based on his average of 1.8 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 1.1 clearances, 2.0 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He even took care of possession well when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 81.4% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).

Milinkovic-Savic is a tough-tackling midfielder who can make a few important interceptions for his team. He can offer decent protection for his teammates at the back and is an accurate passer of the ball. Milinkovic-Savic is primarily a holding midfielder but can also operate in the number ten position if needed.
The Serbia international managed to score and create his fair share of goals in the final third. Furthermore, he is even proficient at completing some energetic dribbles with the ball from midfield. However, there are some concerns over whether the midfielder can make a smooth transition to life in English football.
A midfielder of Milinkovic-Savic’s skillset will be an excellent signing for the Gunners as he will no doubt enhance the overall quality of Mikel Arteta‘s starting XI.
At 27, the Serbian talent is playing at the top of his game and could help the North London outfit secure a top-four place in Premier League football next season. Milinkovic-Savic will bring more goals and creativity to Arsenal’s midfield. Thus, Arteta should try everything he can to secure the signature of the Napoli star ahead of the new campaign.
